Among all the incredible driver assistance technologies that have emerged over the last decade, Ford BlueCruise is one of the most compelling and exciting applications of cutting-edge developments. In short, Ford BlueCruise is a hands-free driver assistance system designed for use on highways. It combines innovations in Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Centering Assist to drive the vehicle to a great extent autonomously.
While the system controls the vehicle’s speed and direction, it’s not a complete replacement for a human driver. However, it is a great companion or assistive technology that takes some of the stress out of driving by making driving easier and more enjoyable. Essentially, the driver still needs to pay attention to the road but can keep their hands off the wheel unless they need to take a responsive action to driving or road conditions. BlueCruise technology also incorporates driver-attention warnings to immediately sound an alert if the system needs to take preventative action or requires the driver to take over control.
Where Can I Use BlueCruise?
BlueCruise works on most divided highways across North America. More specifically, BlueCruise works on approximately 97 percent of controlled-access highways, which account for over 130,000 miles of roads. The system identifies highways it works on, called “Hands-Free Blue Zones,” and will enable the feature when applicable.
